My Story
From my first introduction to the Enneagram in college, I was hooked. I was 18 and it was one of the first times I realized that people have the power to change. We don’t have to settle for being the person others expect us to be or settle into the negative patterns we developed. We don’t have to settle for limited connection with others or accept ‘this is just the way it is’. We can change and we can grow and we are the ones in charge of that. Love and connection is available past the fear and shame that can hold us back.
I’d never heard language like that before and I ate it up. In many ways, the Enneagram set the path for me becoming a therapist and provided a framework for understanding how my trauma had impacted the way I show up in the world. This personal experience shaped the way I approach teaching the Enneagram to therapists today. I don’t see it as simply a system for identifying personality patterns—I see it as a framework for understanding the adaptations we develop and the possibilities for growth beyond them.
After years of self-study and becoming a therapist, I started learning in professional workshops and trained in the Embodiment Tradition of the Enneagram with Dr. Lissa Friedman who attended the Arica School in Chili where the Enneagram was founded. I’ve been integrating the Enneagram into therapy and teaching other therapists how to use the system for over a decade. My own experience with the Enneagram is also why I believe therapists benefit from engaging with this work personally, not just for their clients. The deeper we understand our own patterns, the more fully we can show up in our relationships, our work, and our lives.
It’s a tool I never tire of, and even after all these years, the Enneagram continues to unfold with me. As I grow, new layers of understanding emerge, revealing the depth and relevance of this system in my own life and in the work I do with my clients. I’m excited to teach you about this powerful tool and how to integrate it into your therapy practice in a way that supports both your clients’ growth and your own.
