The Enneagram is More Than a Personality System- It’s a Compass for Growth

The Enneagram is more than a personality system. It is a growth model that helps us understand the patterns, beliefs, and strategies that shape the way we move through the world—and offers a compass for moving beyond the patterns that no longer serve us.

For therapists, the Enneagram provides language and a framework for the work we are already doing: helping clients understand themselves, develop greater self-awareness, and create meaningful change. When clients recognize their patterns through the lens of the Enneagram, they often experience greater validation, hope, and agency as they begin to understand not only why they struggle, but how they can grow.

But the Enneagram is not only a tool for understanding clients. It is also an invitation for therapists to deepen their own self-awareness and growth. As we come to understand our own patterns more fully, we are invited to expand beyond them—not only in the therapy room, but in our own lives. This personal growth deepens our capacity to meet clients with greater compassion, curiosity, and connection.

Bringing the Enneagram Into Your Practice—and Your Life

The Enneagram is more than a framework for understanding your clients—it is a tool for deepening your own awareness as a therapist. Through learning the Enneagram, therapists often discover new language for the patterns they see in themselves and others, creating space for greater compassion, curiosity, and growth.

You’ll gain a deeper understanding of:

  • The patterns, motivations, and protective strategies that shape how we navigate the world

  • How Enneagram patterns show up in your clients’ thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and relationships

  • How to integrate the Enneagram with the therapeutic modalities you already use

  • How your own Enneagram patterns influence your presence, relationships, and work as a therapist

  • New perspectives and interventions to support clients in moving beyond patterns that no longer serve them

The Enneagram is not about putting people into boxes.

It is about understanding the strategies we develop, the needs we're trying to meet beneath them, and the possibilities for growth beyond them.

Why learn from Hanna?

Hanna Woody, Enneagram educator and therapist

I’ve been studying the Enneagram for over twenty years and integrating it into therapy for more than a decade. From my first introduction to the Enneagram in college, I was drawn to its message that people can change—that we are not limited by the patterns we develop or the ways we have learned to navigate the world. Over the years, the Enneagram has become a dynamic part of both my personal growth and my clinical work. It has given me a deeper understanding of the patterns, protective strategies, and adaptations that shape the way we show up in our lives and relationships.

As a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, I bring the Enneagram together with trauma-informed clinical experience and training in the Embodiment Tradition of the Enneagram. I believe the Enneagram is most powerful when it is used as more than a personality system—as a framework for understanding ourselves, our clients, and the possibilities for growth beyond the patterns that no longer serve us.

Through years of integrating the Enneagram into therapy, I have developed type-specific interventions and approaches based on the patterns, challenges, and growth paths I have witnessed in my clients. I created The Therapist’s Enneagram to help therapists integrate this powerful tool into their clinical work while also experiencing the personal growth that comes from engaging with the Enneagram themselves. It’s a tool I never tire of, and even after all these years, the Enneagram continues to reveal new layers of insight and growth in my own life and in the work I do with clients.
